The organization belongs to a consortium formed by the National Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV), Instituto Politécnico de Beja (IPBeja), Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA), Sociedade Portuguesa de Ciências Agrárias (SCAP) and the Sociedad Española de Malherbologia ( SEMh)

Under the theme “Renaturalization of Agriculture”, the initiative has as its backdrop the European Union’s objectives for agriculture until 2050, with a strong focus on agroecology so that, integrated into the landscape, agricultural systems are more sustainable and resilient.

According to the organization “the European agricultural and food sector currently faces multifaceted and complex challenges. The decline in biodiversity, climate change and pressure on farmers’ income are examples of this.”

It is also added that the transition to a form of agriculture that can face these challenges and make it more resilient, requires that agrarian systems include “more nature”, are regenerative and simultaneously economically sustainable.

The Symposium/Congress, divided into four thematic sessions, has around 70 technical-scientific communications, where studies are presented on the topics listed above, as well as others, thanks to the work developed by a large number of teams of researchers and technicians, especially Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. This scientific event also promotes the participation of young researchers, students in advanced training and farmer associations, allowing them to learn about current problems and advances in their resolution or mitigation.

The program and registration form for the Symposium/Congress can be found on the website https://semh2024.com/pt/
