The third day of the Estoril Open in tennis will feature 13 matches, including the first rounds of singles and doubles, after the second round, on Tuesday, was postponed due to rain.

João Sousa’s debut, in what will be the last tournament in the career of the best Portuguese tennis player ever, was one of Tuesday’s postponed meetings, with the Vimaranense, currently in 272nd place in the world rankings, facing the young Frenchman Arthur Fils, 37th in the hierarchy.

João Sousa’s meeting will be the third on the main court, whose program will open with the confrontation between Brazilian João Fonseca, 17 years old and 288th in the ranking, who received an invitation from the organization, and British qualifier Jan Choinski ( 188th), with Austrian Jurij Rodionov and Chilean Cristian Garín then closing a match that started on Monday.

The Portuguese Henrique Rocha, who entered the top 200 this week (197th), will be in the Estoril Open main table for the second time, facing the experienced Frenchman Gaël Monfils, 45th, in the fourth and penultimate meeting of the day at the ‘ court’ central, which will close with the meeting between Argentine Federico Coria and Dutch Botic van de Zandschulp, who started playing on Tuesday.

Coming from qualifying, Jaime Faria, 262nd in the ranking, will star in the second match on the Cascais court, against the Spaniard David Jorda Sanchís, 329th, who was replenished at the last minute to replace the Frenchman Constant Lestienne, 90th, injured in his left knee.

On the second most important court of the Estoril Tennis Club, there will be two pairs matches with the Portuguese, the first between Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral, who won the tournament in 2022, facing the French Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul, second serial heads.

After having played in singles, João Sousa and João Fonseca come together to play in pairs, against the Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner and the Dutch Sem Verbeek.
