The Territorial Command of the GNR of Leiria, through the Criminal Prevention and Community Policing sections, distributed 100 food baskets to elderly people living isolated or in vulnerable situations in the district of Leiria, in a joint action with Pingo Doce.
Composed of essential goods, such as pasta, rice, tuna, biscuits or tea, the offer was delivered to elderly people previously referenced in the last Senior Census Operation 2023, says a joint press release from GNR and Pingo Doce.
“This initiative comes within the scope of a protocol, signed in 2022, between the GNR and Pingo Doce, which aims to strengthen relations, with the aim of developing local actions and initiatives to combat isolation, loneliness and food shortages that, often, affect this age group of the population”, says the statement.
Since the beginning of the partnership, the two entities have already distributed around eight thousand hampers, during the festive seasons of Easter and Christmas, “in an action that aims to maintain closeness and bring a little comfort to elderly people who are in a situation of isolation and loneliness” .
