Star Riders motorcycle club held Egg Run solidarity event

This was the nineteenth edition of the solidarity initiative, which had the collaboration of the Caldense club Grupo Motard São Rafael and whose main objective was the delivery of various donations collected within the scope of this action to OT and CEERDL.

One of the highlights of this day was the “biker baptism”, where all children and young people were able to take a ride on one of the motorbikes and, through this experience, make a special memory. The most enthusiastic repeated it over and over again.

The Expoeste pavilion was filled with excitement as the children, smiling and happy, also enjoyed games, face painting, inflatables, an egg hunt and lunch.

Instilled with a spirit of solidarity, many motorcyclists, from different areas of the country, headed to Caldas da Rainha to participate in this mission.

Every year, around Easter, this motorcycle club prepares a large-scale solidarity initiative.

According to José Dinis, president of Star Riders Portugal, the event was organized for the first time in 2006 in Leiria, during the first year of the club’s official life. Last year it took place in Braga.

In the West region it was the first time that they organized the Egg Run. “It is an annual event that has a very large logistics, in which there are contacts with Chambers and other entities”, he said, adding that it starts to be “organized a year before and involves hundreds of people.”

The Egg Run came about because at Christmas there are already many solidarity initiatives and “in order not to be like others, we remember Easter and we always hold the event close to this festive season, where our emblem is a helmet that represents a rabbit”, explained the club president.

Although organized by the Star Riders, this solidarity event brings together “always many friends from all over the country who contribute donations”.

As this year the initiative took place in Caldas da Rainha, it was up to Nuno and Wendy da Silva, who live in this municipality and who are part of the Moto Clube Star Riders Portugal, to organize the event. “We contacted OT, which is a very integrated solidarity organization here in Caldas and which today supports 70 families and 81 children up to 12 years old and 102 up to 16 years old”.

“We also included the CEERDL, which is aimed at children and young people between the ages of 6 and 18 with special educational needs”, he said.

For Nuno da Silva, the most important thing about the event “was putting smiles on the faces of these children and young people”.

José Viegas, president of OT, highlighted that the initiative is “extremely important and it was with a full heart that we welcomed the members of the Moto Clube Star Riders Portugal to Caldas, putting smiles on our 52 children who participated in the event”. In addition to the board members, OT volunteers also collaborated on the event.

Ana Domingos, president of CEERDL, said that they took advantage of the “opportunity to be in the community in initiatives with other entities, because our young people really want to participate and be with other people”.

CEERDL took 30 young people who “are very excited about riding motorbikes and very fearless”, highlighted the person in charge.

In the end, the president of Star Riders Portugal made popcorn out of his motorcycle’s exhaust, which cheered up the little ones.

The initiative had the support of the Caldens company Transwhite Transportes and the Centro Humanitária Litoral Oeste Norte (Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa).
