The joint application for the City of Wine 2025 has already been submitted to AMPV – Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities, by the Municipalities of Alandroal, Borba, Estremoz, Redondo and Vila Viçosa.

Speaking to ‘ODigital.pt, Borba City Council councillor, Sofia Dias, explained that “the application is ready, has already been delivered and will be publicly presented on April 30th, in Santarém, at the headquarters of the Association of Portuguese Municipalities of Wine (AMPV) entity promoting the competition.”

According to the mayor, this is an application “very rich in content, in which the aim is to value the vineyard, the wine, its production, but also a series of aspects that the wine affects, in addition to its production and of your sale. Heritage, culture, tourism, leisure activities and the economy itself”.

“It has been a very interesting work on the part of the five municipalities, with very homogeneous and pertinent information both about the municipalities involved, the producers, and some entities and companies in these municipalities” he highlighted.

The candidacy has the contribution of José Calado “who has done very important work in terms of historical presentation and the importance of wine. He has been working for a long time and we wanted to take advantage of his expertise and knowledge in this area,” adding that the historian “made a compilation of the importance of wine in the Serra d´ Ossa territory.”

The five municipalities are investing “in presenting the candidacy, with the support of the Regional Tourism Entity (ERT) of Alentejo and Ribatejo, which is preparing all communication of the candidacy. A promotional video was created and recorded in the five municipalities, in locations that were identified.”

Regarding the program that is being outlined, Sofia Dias highlighted that “the Municipalities are preparing several activities that will add a lot of value to our territory, such as the opening and closing galas, the Rural Song Festival, as if If we are the winners of this candidacy, it will be in Borba, next year. Therefore, there are a series of activities here that will greatly enhance our territory.”

This candidacy, from the five municipalities, aims to promote and carry out a vast set of activities and initiatives, linked to wine with regional, national and international visibility and involvement of everyone to reinforce and consolidate the territory, vineyard production and in Alentejo, in particular , in the territory of Serra d’Ossa.

The application will be presented on April 30th, in Santarém, at the headquarters of the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities (AMPV).
