“Celebrating April is remembering that democracy is not a legacy, but an everyday achievement that requires courage, effort and a sense of sharing. April is the right time to remind young people that freedom is the supreme value that deserves care and eternal vigilance, as Thomas Jefferson once said.” This is how Vítor Paulo Pereira, president of the Chamber of Paredes de Coura, presents a series of initiatives to mark the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April that the municipality promotes throughout the month and until the end of the year.

This Wednesday, April 24th, at 12pm, the inauguration of the commemorative mural ’50 years, 50 drawings’ by artist Margarete Barbosa will take place at school EB2,3/S, based on the work developed by students from the school group of Paredes de Coura.

In the afternoon, at 2:30 pm, the Municipal Youth Assembly begins at the Cultural Center, with the aim of encouraging reflection and debate on the theme ‘And until today I have always been future’”, followed by a visit to the exhibitions at 4:30 pm. public space and Municipal Archive.

“Celebrating April is, in these circumstances, an imperative duty and an act of pedagogy. Celebrating April in Coura means taking care of memory”, reinforces Vítor Paulo Pereira.
