Students from the Polytechnic of Viana do Castelo created the “Viana+ Acessível” app, which is already being implemented in the city. However, it is the intention of the two promoters to adapt it and take it to other locations, namely in the north of Spain. The project was presented in Vila Real, within the scope of the IV Experience Exchange Seminar.

Developed by students from the Polytechnic of Viana do Castelo, in collaboration with the Municipality of Viana do Castelo, the App, available for PlayStore and AppStore, is aimed at people with reduced mobility and provides, in a simple and intuitive way, access to routes adapted to the condition of each user, promoting their safety, independence and autonomy.

“Viana + Acessível” was developed by David Verde and Tânia Silva, graduates in Computer Engineering and a master’s degree in Cybersecurity, from the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão do Politécnico de Viana do Castelo.

The app is powered by “a geographic information system” from the Municipality of Viana do Castelo, which has more than 1,100 streets classified in terms of suitability for different audiences and needs. In the future, it should also make reference to public transport, favoring electric buses or shared vehicles. A data dashboard should also be incorporated which, among other features, will allow data to be crossed to analyze mobility patterns.

After being implemented in Viana do Castelo, the two IPVC alumni intend to expand the project. To this end, they have already created the start-up Mob2iS, which aims to take the solution to other locations.

“Mob2iS aims to recommend accessible and personalized routes to users, taking into account the type of restricted mobility they have, as well as important criteria, such as slope, time or suitability of the route”, explain David Verde and Tânia Silva.
