The Viana + Acessível App was developed by students from the Polytechnic of Viana do Castelo and is already implemented in the city of Viana do Castelo. However, it is the intention of the two promoters to adapt it and take it to other locations, particularly in northern Spain. The project was presented in Vila Real, within the scope of the IV Experience Exchange Seminar.

Available only for the city of Viana do Castelo, the Viana + Acessível App has now been presented in Vila Real and may reach several municipalities in the north of Portugal, but also in Galicia.

Developed by students from the Polytechnic of Viana do Castelo, in collaboration with the Municipality of Viana do Castelo, the App, available for PlayStore and AppStore, is aimed at people with reduced mobility and provides, in a simple and intuitive way, access to routes adapted to the condition of each user, promoting their safety, independence and autonomy.

The App was presented in Vila Real, during the IV Experience Exchange Seminar, within the scope of Tourism, promoted by Eixo Atlântico.

Viana + Acessível was developed by David Verde and Tânia Silva, graduates in Computer Engineering and with a master’s degree in Cybersecurity, from the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão do Politécnico de Viana do Castelo.

Centered on the theme of accessible tourism, this year’s edition of the Experience Exchange Seminar, in addition to the two IPVC alumni, was also attended by Sara Paiva, pro-president of IPVC and coordinator of the App. After the positive impact in Viana do Castelo, Sara Paiva highlighted the fact that Viana + Acessível is “a need already recognized” by several entities, namely municipalities.

Viana + Acessível is powered by “a geographic information system” from the Municipality of Viana do Castelo, which has more than 1,100 streets classified in terms of suitability for different audiences and needs. In the future, it should also make reference to public transport, favoring electric buses or shared vehicles. A data dashboard should also be incorporated which, among other features, will allow data to be crossed to analyze mobility patterns.

After being implemented in Viana do Castelo, it is now the aim of the two IPVC alumni to expand the project. To this end, they have already created the start-up Mob2iS, which aims to take the solution to other locations.

“Mob2iS aims to recommend accessible and personalized routes to users, taking into account the type of restricted mobility they have, as well as important criteria, such as slope, time or suitability of the route”, explain David Verde and Tânia Silva.
