The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, recently participated in the colloquium on “The challenge of water for national agriculture”, an initiative that took place as part of the Ovibeja event that runs until this Sunday in the Capital of Baixo Alentejo.

Recently sworn into office, the Minister, born in Beja, said in her participation that the strategy defined by the Government for the Alentejo region, in terms of water, includes “the dams of Crato/Pisão, Monte da Rocha (Ourique)” and Santa Clara (Odemira)”, says Lidador Notícias.

Regarding the Pisão Dam, a structuring project for the Alentejo Region, the minister referred to it as a “complex” process, highlighting its three aspects: water reserve, irrigation and photovoltaic park. The Minister also considers it essential for the region to reinforce the the Alqueva Dam, Monte da Rocha and Santa Clara.

The person responsible for the Environment and Energy portfolio also expressed concern about the investments planned in the hydrogen area, for which water is needed. Taking into account the scarcity of this essential commodity, Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho highlighted in this regard “We do not rule out asking for help from large companies that will operate in the sector, to create a desalination plant in Sines”.
