Assembly Sculpture “Zeca Afonso” A Homage to Portuguese Freedom and Democracy. On next Saturday, April 27thbetween 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, one of the collective’s artists, Miguel Martins, will present his most recent work of art in assemblage, entitled “Zeca Afonso”, at Estúdio Onze, in Faro.
The featured piece is a tribute from the artist to Zeca Afonso. This assemblage sculpture was meticulously carved from recycled wood, leftover tiles and old materials. This work is a tribute to the emblematic Portuguese singer and composer, whose voice resonated like a hymn to freedom in Portugal.
This piece assumes significant importance in the context of Portuguese democracy, marking 50 years of the Carnation Revolution. It is a living testimony to the convergence between sustainable art and history, inviting reflection on the importance of freedom, democracy and respect for the history that shaped Portugal.
With dimensions of 200cm x 210cm, “Zeca Afonso” is one of the artist’s largest pieces, and incorporates a fusion of mixed techniques that bring to life the contours of the face of freedom, representing an eternal symbol of resistance and artistic expression.
Miguel Martins is known as a visual artist, excelling in assemblage and sculpture. Estúdio Onze, the place where the work will be celebrated, is the creative studio that houses all the old doors and shutters, and is known for its inspiring atmosphere and support for art with purpose.
To celebrate the inauguration of the “Zeca Afonso” sculpture and the democratic values it represents, Estúdio Onze will organize a pop-up exhibition on Saturday, providing an environment for conviviality and informal reflection on the importance of art and free expression.
