Association of Wine Municipalities celebrates anniversary on opening day of headquarters

The Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities (AMPV) celebrates its seventeenth anniversary on April 30th, and the moment will be marked by four important actions, namely the inauguration of the National Headquarters, the delivery of the Prestige Awards, the election of the City of Wine 2025 and the delivery of membership plaques to 25 new associated municipalities.

AMPV’s new national headquarters is located at Casa do Campino, in Santarém, in a space provided by the Santarém City Council, which consists of an office, meeting room and atrium. The inauguration of the new headquarters is scheduled for 7 pm.

On the same day, at 4 pm, the extraordinary meeting of the AMPV Intermunicipal Assembly will also be held to elect the City of Wine 2025 and admit another 20 new associated municipalities.
According to the association, in the association’s history, there is no record of the adhesion of such a significant number of municipalities in the short space of a quarter, which leads the president of AMPV, Luís Encarnação, to state that “AMPV is on the right path. We currently have around 140 associated municipalities and we are the second largest association of municipalities in Portugal, after the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities itself. We are confident that we will soon be able to achieve our objective of having 50% of the total in our network. of Portuguese municipalities”.

The general secretary, José Arruda, gives a very positive assessment of AMPV’s journey, revealing that “it is with great satisfaction that we see the association reach this date with such an active and dynamic life. Wine, wine tourism and gastronomy are strategic areas for our country, which is why we have brought together municipalities to, together, develop projects and actions that value and promote the entire endogenous potential of the territories”, he stressed, highlighting the main projects of the association, the election of the Ambassador of the Wine Territories of Portugal (formerly known as Queen of the Harvest of Portugal), the Wine Cities oenological Competition, the National Rural Song Festival, the attribution of the title City of Wine or the Network of Wine Parishes, Olive and cork plantations. The AMPV Prestige Awards will be awarded on the evening of April 30th, during the dinner celebrating the 17th anniversary. The entities and personalities distinguished this year are: Leonor Freitas (Personality of the Year Award), CNOIV – National Commission of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, within the scope of 100 years of the OIV (Entity of the Year Award), Pico Museum (Award Wine Museum), and Essência do Vinho (Wine Tourism Award).
