Poveiros with many ways to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Revolution

The 50th anniversary of the 25th of April is being celebrated with great emphasis by the Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim.

On the evening of the 24th, the public debate “The relevance of the 25th of April in social evolution” will take place, moderated by journalist João Gobern and interventions by guests José Carlos Vasconcelos, Isabel Ponce de Leão, Manuel Loff and Sofia de Melo Araújo. The initiative takes place from 9pm in the Chamber’s Main Hall, with free entry subject to room availability. This will be followed, at 11pm, by the Choral Concert – Pró-Música EMcanto, with an interpretation of pieces from “Abril”, under the direction of Rui Silva, at Praça do Almada. In the Galeria dos Arcos of the Paços do Concelho Building, until midnight, there is an artistic event open to students in the 2nd and 3rd cycles and secondary education, entitled “Coloring the 25th of April – Education and Art as a form of free expression” .

Naturally, the highlight of the celebrations will be this Thursday, April 25th, with the Official Commemorative Session, at 10am, at Cine-Teatro Garrett. This ceremony will be attended by the Mayor, the President of the Municipal Assembly, representatives of various political parties: PSD, PS, CHEGA, CDU, CDS-PP, IL and BE. The moment will also include a cultural intervention with the participation of Coro Capela Marta, Coro Pró-Música EMcanto, Aurelino Costa and Carlos Costa. Entrance is free subject to room availability and requires presentation of a ticket. Furthermore, as has happened a few years ago, there will be parallel sporting activities, such as cycle tourism (starts at 10:30 am at Praça do Almada) and table tennis (starts at 1 pm at the Municipal Pavilion). Also on this day, the Póvoa de Varzim Musical Band will perform at 11 am and at Cine-Teatro Garrett there will be two activities: a fun one for families, called “Cores de Abril” Illustration Workshop, at 4 pm, and the show ‘Cristina Branco sings José Afonso’ starting at 9:30 pm.
