Moimenta da Beira School Group recently won the Euroscola district competition, organized by the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth and the Office of the European Parliament in Portugal

The Moimenta da Beira School Group recently won the Euroscola district competition, organized by the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ). Five secondary schools in the Viseu district participated in the district phase of the initiative that promotes debate on European issues.

The groups of São Pedro do Sul, Canas de Senhorim, Moimenta da Beira and Oliveira de Frades and Escola Secundária Alves Martins (Viseu) participated. Peace was the main theme of this year’s competition.

The jury, composed of Leonor Barata (Culture councilor at the Chamber of Viseu), lieutenant-colonel Adriano Resende (commander of the GNR of Viseu) and Joana Martins (coordinator of the Social Communication course at the Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu) – evaluated the written works and oral presentations and gave victory to students Rodrigo Frias and Afonso de Melo Augusto, from Moimenta da Beira.

“The winning work will now be evaluated by a National Jury that will decide which of the winning schools in each district session on the continent, Azores and Madeira, will participate in a visit to get to know the European Parliament up close”, highlights the note released by IPDJ.

The competition will then select the schools that will represent Portugal in the Euroscola sessions of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg.

Euroscola is organized by IPDJ and the European Parliament Office in Portugal.
