The Leiria GNR detected, last Sunday, an illegal discharge of domestic effluents into the Lis River, in the municipality of Leiria.

Following complaints from the public, members of the GNR’s Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) went to the location and discovered, “next to the Polis circuit in the city of Leiria, the existence of a discharge of domestic effluents directly to the Lis River, without being subject to any prior treatment”, says the GNR.

The discharge originated from the “obstruction of a basic sanitation pipeline” and, due to the presence of paints and thinners in domestic effluents, which are “highly” polluting water resources, the intervention of Leiria’s municipal services was called in to unclog it. of conduct.

This action “allowed basic sanitation to continue its path for prior treatment of domestic effluents”, can be read in the press release.

“The action resulted in the preparation of an administrative offense report for direct or indirect discharge into a water resource (Rio Lis) of a potentially polluting liquid substance, sent to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA)”, adds the GNR.
