A project by Instituto Educativo do Juncal (IEJ) on visual health was one of the seven national winners of the competition The Challengefrom the ”laCaixa” Foundation, and will now have a presence in Spain. Your Vision – See more, live better! (Your vision – See more, live better!) is the name of the project created by Sofia Fonseca, Rita Luís, Joana Laureano and Leonor Marto, 10th year Communication course students, with the coordination of the IEJ’s pedagogical director, Tânia Galeão, and had «the support of several teachers and students”, says the IEJ, in a post on its Facebook page.

The project arises from a concern about the visual health of the population, especially among children and young people of school age, «who face difficulties in accessing ophthalmological consultations and corrective glasses, due to economic issues». The winning team explains that this project was born after a study was carried out on the school population, which identified a «significant proportion of young people with undiagnosed visual problems or without adequate treatment». It was precisely with the aim of solving this problem that the students created an online platform (yourvision.pt) through which people have access to a series of services related to visual health and access to corrective glasses, in addition to pertinent information about the project in question.

The seven winning teams will now head to Barcelona (Spain) to participate, between the 8th and 11th of May, in the Campus The Challenge by EduCaixa ’24, with the aim of “making the world a better place”. «Throughout these days, students will work intensely on their social entrepreneurship projects side by side with the best teams in Portugal and Spain», it is explained on the competition page.
