Measles cases rise in Portugal

Three new cases of measles were confirmed in relation to last week: two in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region and one in the North Region.

The number of measles cases in Portugal is rising. According to a report from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), there are a total of 23 cases.

In a statement, the DGS informs that three new cases of measles were confirmed, compared to last week: two in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Region and one in the North Region.

Thus, between January 1st and April 21st of this year, there were a total of 169 suspected cases reported, of which 140 were discarded and six are under investigation.

The majority of cases occur in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (14) cases, followed by the North, with seven, and the Central region and the autonomous region of Madeira, both with one case.

The first confirmed case was a baby, aged 20 months, not resident in Portugal and not vaccinated.
