The Portuguese Karting Championship (CPK) continued in Viana do Castelo and Henrique Cruz returned to the podium, this time in the second double round of the X30 Super Shifter category. The 18-year-old driver won the qualifying heat and took 2nd place in Saturday’s Final, continuing his rise in the championship.
X30 national champion in 2022, Henrique Cruz quickly became one of the great figures in the category of karts with a gearbox, the X30 Super Shifter. In Viana do Castelo, stage of CPK’s second double round, the young man from Leiri was once again in the spotlight in Saturday’s race, where he began by being 3rd fastest in timed training, 0.038s behind pole-position.
In the qualifying heat, Henrique Cruz was very strong and beat all the competition, accumulating another 12.5 points for victory in that race. In the Final, he once again fought intensely for victory, leading the first six laps, but finishing in 2nd place, 0.146s behind the winner.
On Sunday, Henrique Cruz was once again ready to fight for the top positions in the Final. However, an exaggerated maneuver by an opponent in the last race of the weekend put him in the grass area of the Viana do Castelo track, not letting him go beyond 5th place.
“It was a tough and very competitive weekend, where we won the qualifying heat on Saturday and where we were very close to also winning the Final. On Sunday we were somewhat hampered by traffic in timed practice and then in the Final, we were put off the track, which left us completely out of the discussion for the top spots. Our pace was good, so it was a situation that cost us the second podium at the weekend”, said the Sporting CP driver, assuming that he is already focused on the next CPK round, on the 11th and 12th of May, at the Kartódromo Internacional of the Western Region, in Bombarral.|
