Carlos Moedas’ mother died. The death of the mother of the mayor of Lisbon was announced this Saturday, April 20, through a statement and social media from the Union of Portuguese-Speaking Capital Cities, of whose executive committee the mayor is president.

“The mother of the president of Lisbon City Council and president of the UCCLA Executive Committee, Carlos Moedas, has passed away. At this time, UCCLA extends its deepest condolences to all family and friends“, the letter reads. “The Secretary General of UCCLA, Vitor Ramalho, sent condolences on behalf of himself and the institution he represents”, it continues.

Carlos Moedas was born in Beja, on August 10, 1970. His mother was a seamstress and his father was a local communist, being the journalist responsible for creating the regional newspaper “Diário do Alentejo”, as read in “Expresso”. The mayor of Lisbon is married to Céline Abecassis, with whom he has three children.

The Union of Portuguese-Speaking Capital Cities “is an inter-municipal association of an international nature, created on June 28, 1985”, according to the official website.
