Two men were arrested, on Monday, in flagrante delicto, in a hotel in Lisbon, as they were suspected of committing the crimes of qualified fraud and forgery of documents. According to the PSP, individuals were in the habit of making exploratory approaches in various locations with tempting business proposals.
The suspects proposed the opening of business companies, for which they invited the victims to be partners and managers of the supposed companies in Portugal. They tried to convince them that they had several million euros to invest, and that these millions were amounts diverted from governments or humanitarian aid associations in countries in conflict.
“Once the plot is set up and the victim is convinced, the second part of the plan emerges, which consists of carrying out a demonstration with a miraculous liquid that cleans marked notes, whether with stamps from a certain country or humanitarian association, thus allowing their introduction into the legal financial circuit , through companies supposedly created and of which the victim will supposedly be the manager”, reads the PSP statement.
After the transaction was made, the suspects left the scene, leaving the victim to lose the money he invested with “a suitcase full of papers and bottles with the supposed miracle liquid that only contains water and dye.”
Due to several signs that the crime was taking place, the suspects were approached and detained by the PSP. The authority seized a car, eight cell phones, 250 euros in banknotes, two watches, a safe, 24 bundles of papers similar to bundles of banknotes, three bottles of ‘miracle liquid’, two false identification documents and other items used to promote the illicit act. .
The detainees will be present for the first interrogation to learn about the coercive measures.
