On a day full of cultural activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, Braga became richer with the inauguration, on Avenida da Liberdade, of the ‘Porta da Liberdade’, a work signed by Alberto Vieira.

Located on Avenida da Liberdade, the sculpture features a half-open door with 50 carved carnations and was inaugurated, this Thursday morning, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April in Braga.

According to Ricardo Rio, president of Braga City Council, the work gives a “physical dimension” to these celebrations.

“Today is the day to celebrate and it was essential that this remarkable moment, in addition to all the activities taking place, had something that would leave a lasting mark on the city. This is a very expressive piece and whose symbolism is completely aligned with the celebration”, stated the mayor.

According to the mayor, by representing a half-open door, the sculpture leaves a “challenge of movement and change”, at the same time that “it requires a collective effort to move forward and consolidate the achievements of April”.

“It is precisely through this door of freedom, which opened on April 25, 1974, that we will be able to reach a better future”, highlighted Ricardo Rio.
