The Management of the Algarve Regional Organization of the PCP welcomes the holding of the 50th anniversary parade of the 25th of April, in Faro, where hundreds of participants were present.
Called by the Organizing Committee of the Popular Celebrations of the 25th of April in Faro, “the parade had a huge spread, coming from all over the Algarve, which covered several streets in downtown Faro, from Jardim Manuel Bívar to Largo de São Pedro, with enormous joy and emotion, but also full of strength and great combativeness for April, its achievements and advances”, reads a press release issued by PCP Algarve.
“The presence of many young people and children, many women, retired people, many workers organized by their unions (such as teachers, commerce and services, public administration, hotels, nurses, CTT, among others), of ex-soldiers, movements for the right to housing, equality, anti-racism, peace, holding posters and banners, marking positions of affirmation and demand for compliance with the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic and the values of April.
Salaries, pensions, working rights and conditions, housing, dignity, equality, peace, solutions to the many problems we face in the Algarve. These are claims that prove that April is alive and means struggle and action.
The demand that April last, with the chant often repeated along the way – “25th of April always”, was well linked with the also associated demand that political, social, economic and cultural setbacks are not wanted, with the affirmation of followed by “Fascism never again!”
“The united People will never be defeated!”, “Peace yes, war no!”, “We don’t want to have to choose to pay for housing or food!”, “A salary increase is really necessary!” – were one of the most repeated slogans, demonstrating that celebrating April is more in the future for everyone who was present.
