The platform that unites five nursing unions today welcomed the opening to dialogue by the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, to try to resolve the problems that affect nurses, saying that she spoke “eye to eye”.

“He looked us in the eye and looked at us as partners and not as opponents. This was what happened in the other negotiations. We were seen as an adversary on the other side of the table”, said the president of the Independent Union of Nursing Professionals (SIPE), Fernando Mendes Parreira, criticizing the previous socialist supervision.

Fernando Parreira was speaking to journalists after the leaders of SIPE, the Nurses Union (SE), the Democratic Union of Nurses of Portugal (SINDEPOR), the Independent Union of All United Nurses (SITEU) and the National Nurses Union (SNE) met today in the afternoon for about an hour and a half with Ana Paula Martins at the Ministry of Health, in Lisbon.

“There was openness on the part of the minister to try to solve the problems that affect Portuguese nursing. Our commitment for nursing, common to these five unions, was delivered, where we have our demands that we intend to see negotiated in a short period of time”, she highlighted.
