Decisions on Parque Liberdade under discussion at the Marco de Canaveses public meeting

The inauguration of Parque Liberdade, which took place this Thursday, April 25th, was one of the topics under discussion at the public meeting of the Marco de Canaveses City Council, which took place this Friday, April 26th.

Councilor Mário Bruno Magalhães called the inauguration, carried out by the president of the municipality and the architect of the work, the “reality show”stating that “they forgot to say important things”. According to the councilor, “That park was not the council’s wish. Its execution was an obligation of the city council. The project is, in fact, the council’s, but there were a number of situations, namely the construction of a leisure area, a city park for the real estate producer, who was developing all that space and beyond. In addition to this obligation, he also had the obligation to build a food channel and a transformation station on Rua Amália Rodrigues. When we arrived at the camera, it was already in default. There was even a letter threatening or with the beginning of litigation if the council did not immediately carry out this work”pointed.

According to Mário Bruno Magalhães, “then all that investment was worked on to create the best solution to meet the needs of the city center. I think it was good for the population to know the obligations that the council had towards the prosecutor and, in fact, yesterday they were duly resolved and welcomed, so to speak”.

On this subject, the president of Marco de Canaveses City Council, Cristina Vieira, argued that “Whether they are commitments made by this executive or with previous ones, it is up to the city council, naturally, to evaluate them based on their competencies, to assume and implement the commitments made. In this specific case when they are written obligations, it is up to the city council, naturally, to comply with them and that is what we did, regardless of these obligations of the previous executive”.

Another topic, still within the scope of Parque Liberdade, was Praça Salgueiro Maia. According to councilor Mário Bruno Magalhães, “Salgueiro Maia was the one who did everything without anything in return, unfortunately, much of what comes next is with something in return. But, I think that there would be men and women in Marco de Canaveses who worked hard for freedom and who perhaps naturally deserved this place. Nothing against what Praça Salgueiro Maia is, however, I think there are Marcoenses with value who could very well have given or designated that space”.

In response, the president of the municipality explained that the name Salgueiro Maia was given to the square because “We understand that associating your tribute with the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, in a park named after Liberdade, would be the best form of tribute. The Salgueiro Maia square is a tribute to all the Capitães de Abril, to everyone, including those from Marco de Canaveses, directly or indirectly to all those who contributed to the 25th of April and this was duly explained also on site, in ‘reality show'”.
