‘All to Manif’. It was like this, this morning, in Vila Verde, in an action led by young students from different groups of schools in the municipality as part of the vast program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April.

‘For the public school’, the ‘United School will never be defeated’, ‘Freedom and Equality’, ‘Freedom is being whoever we want’, ‘Peace, Bread, Justice’, ‘Nature can live without us, we cannot live without it’ and ‘There is only one Planet’ were some of the slogans raised by children and young people in a demonstration in defense of the school, the rights of children/young people and the protection of the planet.

With an escort from Cavalry Regiment nº 6, the Dragões do Entre Douro e Minho, the students walked through Praça da República to Praça de Santo António, where they were received by the democrats of Vila Verde, the first men and women who were part of the first two Administrative Commissions of the municipality of Vila Verde after the revolution.

With songs by Zeca Afonso and Paulo de Carvalho, the reading of the winning poem of the municipal poem competition dedicated to the 25th of April, and a greeting from the mayor, Júlia Fernandes, who highlighted the “extraordinary and contagious involvement of schools” in the celebrations , concluded another remarkable moment of the April celebrations.
