Failure to adapt to the soft tire mounted on the Aprilia’s rear wheel caused Miguel Oliveira to fall this Friday in the timed training session for the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix, in Jerez de la Frontera.

The Portuguese rider finished the session in 19th place, 1.317 seconds behind the fastest, the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), in a session in which he suffered his first crash of the season.

“Today was not an easy day. As soon as we mounted the soft tire on the rear, I felt that the balance of the bike was strange, especially when braking”, the Almada-born rider began by explaining.

Oliveira added that “the rear was pushing the front” and that was what caused the fall.

“There’s no problem with that, but it was a frustrating afternoon, especially because we didn’t have the rhythm,” he stressed.

Miguel Oliveira also explained that “he lacked top speed to even be able to think about entering the top 10”.

“The lap times are already quite competitive and we weren’t fast enough. The positive aspect is that the team can analyze important data from the Maverick [Viñales] and Alex [Espargaró] and we hope to take a step forward tomorrow (Saturday)”, concluded the Portuguese driver.

The MotoGP Spanish GP is the fourth round of the season.

Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati) arrives at this race leading the championship, with 80 points, while the Portuguese rider is 14th, with 13.
