The population of Amor, in the municipality of Leiria, demands compensation for the parish for the installation of a biomethane plant, which will treat and value agricultural and livestock effluents. The demand was expressed in a clarification session held last week, where several residents expressed concern about the possible impacts of the unit, fearing that it could generate bad smells and increase the circulation of trucks within the villages.

In response, those responsible for Génia Bioenergy, a Spanish company that, in partnership with Repsol, will invest around 35 million euros in the unit, assured that the technology to be adopted “is already tested and validated” and “inhibits the existence of odors ”. “It is an absolute guarantee: the unit does not produce odors”, assured Amândio Santos, coordinator of the company in Portugal, stressing that the effluents will be dumped in the unit in a “hermetically sealed” pavilion.
