A couple who fell victim to a fall in the mountains of the region were rescued by the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters, in a rescue that lasted 13 hours.

As reported in a note sent to the editorial team, the alert was received by the Integrated Communications Center of the Regional Relief Operations Command (CIC-CROS) of the Regional Civil Protection Service on April 26th at 5:00 p.m., without, however, being certain. the location of the victims.

“In view of the communication received, the Wide Angle Rescue team of the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters was immediately activated, which requested the sending of the coordinates”, reports the Regional Civil Protection Service, which points out, however, that “the citizen who gave the alert sent several coordinates, all of them different, leading this team to follow different trails in search of the couple, from Ribeiro Frio, Curral das Freiras and finally, Santo António”.

“Upon arrival at the exact location, in the 3 Paus area – Levada da Viana/ Curral das Freiras, at 9:30 pm, the firefighters followed the trail, finding the couple around 1 hour and a half later, around 60 meters below the path, preparing all the necessary equipment to rescue the couple, who were suffering from scalp injuries, conscious and oriented”, added the same note.

This service points out that the area in question is “highly dangerous, with recurring rockfalls, which led to the recovery of the aforementioned citizens in around 1h30”.

However, given the instability of the route, the team decided to leave through Curral das Freiras, ending the rescue at 6 am on April 27th.

What is certain is that, doing the math, this mission was successfully completed in a total of 13 hours of commitment.

It should be noted that the Forest Police Corps and the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters were also at the scene.

The Regional Civil Protection Service, IP-RAM, reminds us that, when calling 112 through the “Prociv Madeira” app, operators will receive the exact location through georeferencing, making assistance faster.
