SPAC recalled that “Azores Airlines is for the Azores, as TAP is for the country”.

The SPAC-Civil Aviation Pilots Union welcomes the recommendation of the SATA board of directors that defends the annulment of the privatization process of Azores Airlines, a company of the group.

“SPAC’s concern regarding the entire Azores Airlines privatization process was expressed in November last year, through an open letter addressed to the SATA administration and the Regional Government of the Azores, where it presented the reasons for its apprehension regarding a safe and stable future for the company”, he reveals in a statement.

Last week, SPAC once again highlighted that it expected a negative opinion from the SATA Administration regarding the privatization of Azores Airlines because it considered, among several other reasons, that the Newtour/MS Aviation consortium has “reputational gaps” that would jeopardize the future of the Azorean company.

SPAC also recalled that “Azores Airlines is for the Azores, as TAP is for the country, and it cannot be forgotten that around 80% to 90% of SATA passengers, which provides public transport services between the islands of archipelago, come from Azores Airlines and a company with great economic weight and importance for the archipelago cannot be called into question. It is essential that in a new competition more rigorous selection criteria are adopted for the profile of future investors”.

And he adds: “Since the Regional Government already has the opinion of the SATA board of directors in its hands, SPAC eagerly awaits the final decision of the Regional Government, which has the last word”.
