The former mayor of Moimenta da Beira, Alexandre Gomes Cardia, was recently honored posthumously in the municipality and his memory was engraved in a sculpture now on display in Terreiro das Freiras square, in the center of the town.

The former mayor was honored on April 25th with the inauguration of the monument dedicated in his name and which projects the idea of the movement. The eldest son, Francisco Cardia, says he sees himself in the sculpture, considering that it represents his father “as a restless being, who could not stand still and had to move constantly”.

The image also shows a man looking at the horizon. “Cardia was known to all of us”, remembers his son.

Throughout his life, he also performed other functions within the municipality, having been founder and president of the Casa do Povo de Moimenta da Beira, president of the Sports and Recreation Club, the Folklore Ranch of Moimenta da Beira and the former Grémio da Lavoura .

The tribute party was promoted by the Municipal Assembly.
