The Senhora do Rosário Festival Committee, from the parish of Cristelo, Barcelos, announced today that it was the target of a robbery and lost “a large part” of the money they had to pay for the party that takes place next week.

“This occurrence seriously affects our financial capacity to organize the party as planned”, says the commission, in a statement.

From what O MINHO found, around 20 thousand euros were stolen from the home of a member of the party committee. The events occurred on Thursday afternoon.

After what happened, the parish showed solidarity and the Cristelo Parents Association organized a cake fair.

The local parish council states, in a Facebook post, that the “substantial amount taken only increases the seriousness of what happened”.

“The authorities are already engaged in investigations to ensure that those responsible are identified and held accountable. This incident serves as a wake-up call for all of us. It is important to be alert and united as a community to prevent future similar events. Let’s remain vigilant and support each other in this difficult time”, adds the municipality.

Despite the strong loss, O MINHO knows that the Senhora do Rosário Cristelo Festival Committee intends to move forward with the party that takes place between the 10th and 12th of May. The artist Leandro is the headliner.
