Carlos Moreira da Silva confirmed as president of Business Roundtable Portugal

The 43 members of Business Roundtable Portugal elected Carlos Moreira da Silva as president. Cláudia Azevedo and Nuno Amado are the vice-presidents.

Carlos Moreira da Silva will be Vasco de Mello’s successor at the head of Business Roundtable Portugal (BRP), after being elected this Tuesday morning. The association, which represents 43 large companies, also confirmed in a statement that Cláudia Azevedo, executive president of Sonae SGPS, and Nuno Amado, president of Millennium BCP, will assume the vice-presidency. Vasco de Mello remains a member.

The new management will also include Ana Figueiredo, CEO of Altice Portugal, João Bento, CEO of CTT, João Ortigão Costa, CEO of Sugal, Jorge de Melo, CEO of Sovena, and Ricardo Pires, CEO of Semapa.

In this mandate until 2027, Carlos Moreira da Silva will, according to BRP, continue efforts “to accelerate Portugal’s economic and social growth, in order to guarantee a more prosperous, fair and sustainable future for all Portuguese”. “It is with a high sense of responsibility and mission that I assume the presidency of the BRP Association. I am, together with the rest of the management, committed to expanding the influence and impact of our proposals and initiatives in society and the country, to help achieve the ambition of growth that we demand for Portugal”, says Carlos Moreira da Silva, quoted in the statement.

“We are 43 action leaders and companies, willing to set an example, to lend our teams and resources, and to lead the change and transformation that depends on us, companies, but also to be more demanding with the remaining stakeholders so that the ambition we have for Portugal is fulfilled”, adds the person in charge.

The organization’s advisory board now includes João Castello Branco, who joined the BRP board until 2021; Joana Rocha Scaff, managing director and head of Europe private equity at Neuberger Berman; Ricardo Reis, professor at the London School of Economics; Sandra Santos, administrator of BA Glass and Navigator; and Sérgio Rebelo, professor at the Kellogg School of Management. Nuno Galvão Teles, partner at MLGT, will continue as chairman of the general assembly, while António Brochado Correia maintains leadership of the Supervisory Board.

BRP currently brings together 43 leaders of the country’s largest companies, together representing revenues of 124 billion euros (in 2022), of which 65 billion in Portugal. These companies employed 424 thousand people, of which 218 thousand in Portugal.
