UC Faculty of Pharmacy “sign of future and employability”

The solemn session of the Day of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra (FFUC) took place on May 7th, at the Amphitheater Caetano de Santo António.

The Director of FFUC, Fernando Ramos, was pleased with the current number of students. “The Faculty of Pharmacy had, as of yesterday, 1,697 students”, and “there have never been so many students enrolled” at FFUC. When comparing with the previous academic year, the director said that “first option placements” rose from “54.5% to 66.3%”. According to the person responsible, such values ​​come from the recognition that “a course at the Faculty of Pharmacy is a sign of the future and employability”.

Fernando Ramos said that the demand for FFUC is due to its current training offer, highlighting the “entry into operation, this academic year, of two more new courses”: the Master in Plant-Based Medicines and Food Supplements and the Specialization Course Advanced in Radiopharmacy. For the future, the director of FFUC assured that the college will “continue to deepen the training experience in partnership with other UC Organic Units.

During the session, he warned that the “hiring of more teachers” is “inevitable”. Fernando Ramos also added that it is necessary to reinforce the “number of non-teaching employees in various areas”.

Reflecting on the issue of hiring, the Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão, mentioned the need for “intelligent rejuvenation”. “We must have the capacity to create pharmacists for the future.” However, the UC Rector assured that “a course will never be left unoperated because of [da falta] of human resources”.

As for infrastructure, Amílcar Falcão acknowledged that there is still a lot to do. In the future, “accessibility to Pole III will be completely different”, with the possibility of a “siloauto” and an expansion of the canteen.
