II Meeting of Migrant Communities Resident in the Municipality of Alcanena

On May 1st, the II Meeting of Migrant Communities Resident in the Municipality of Alcanena took place at the Alcanena Municipal Market, an initiative that aims to welcome, integrate and interact with the various communities with the municipality and the population.

The Meeting began with the inauguration of the ALLCome Space – Local Support Center for the Integration of Migrants of Alcanena, in the presence of the executive of the City Council, the Bishop of Santarém, D. José Traquina, Mário José Fernandes Ribeiro, Director of the Integration Department of Migrants (DIM), hierarchically dependent on the board of directors of AIMA, IP, the President of the Municipal Assembly, representatives of Parish Councils and Unions and parish priests of the municipality.

At the inauguration of this space, there was the opportunity to praise the work carried out, as well as the strengthening of institutional relationships to increase this support for migrants who choose the municipality of Alcanena as a place to live and work.

The Jubilare de Alcanena association set the tone for the beginning of this II Meeting, followed by interventions from councilor Marlene Carvalho, who thanked everyone for their presence and gave the floor to the Bishop of Santarém, followed by the intervention of Mário Ribeiro, who congratulated the municipality for the initiative and the opening of a space dedicated to migrants in a central location in the village, and Father Dionísio, who witnessed, firsthand, the form and gestures of welcome that the municipality and the communities provided.

The speeches were closed by the Mayor of Alcanena, Rui Anastácio, who praised the work carried out with migrant communities and the importance of reinforcing support for legalization/regularization, information and the reception of migrants, thanking everyone for their presence.

After the interventions, a gastronomic sharing took place, which was attended by thirteen migrant communities living in Alcanena, namely Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cabo Vede, Brazil, Venezuela, Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, Morocco, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
