Crisis at the Samouco Parish Council: President and secretary resign due to controversy

-

The Samouco Parish Council is plunged into a deep crisis, with the unfolding of events that led to the resignation of the president and secretary, allegedly due to a series of irregularities and lack of transparency.

This political upheaval not only shakes up the local scene, but also raises questions about the health of democracy in this community. The controversy, which has been dragging on throughout the mandate, reached its peak with the resignations of Leonel Fina and Clara Vila Cova, representatives of the Socialist Party (PS) in the executive of the Samouco Parish Council. Amid mutual accusations and internal tensions, the local political scene is in a state of turmoil.

The CDU Coordinating Committee in the Parish of Samouco issued a statement, lamenting the lack of transparency and the attacks on democratic rules during this mandate. The statement highlights the CDU’s insistence on demanding clarifications and documents to monitor the activities of the Parish Council, however, all requests were ignored by the PS executive.

Lack of transparency may be hiding irregularities and illegalities“, warns the CDU, highlighting the importance of accountability to the population. The resignation of the president and secretary, together with the stay of Joel Rodrigues, current treasurer and new interim president, only intensifies the climate of tension and uncertainty.

The situation is worsened by accusations of irregularities made by the resigning secretary, casting doubt on the integrity of local management. The CDU reiterates its demand for transparency and responsibility, highlighting that the problem goes beyond “personal issues”, as suggested by the PS Council.

Over the past two and a half years, the PS executive has faced constant criticism for alleged attacks on democracy, including censorship on the Junta’s social media, disrespect for freedom of association and the right to strike, in addition to measures that negatively impact local citizens.

The CDU concludes its statement by reaffirming its commitment to representing and defending the interests of the population of Samouco, promising to continue its work in favor of transparency and local democracy.

This political crisis in the Samouco Parish Council not only reveals weaknesses in local management, but also raises questions about the quality of democracy and the responsibility of elected representatives towards the community they serve. How events unfold in the coming weeks will be crucial in determining the direction of this controversy and the future of governance in the parish.

CDU statement

You can always count on the CDU The CDU, in the Parish of Samouco, thus regrets the lack of transparency and frequent attacks on democratic rules that have occurred in this Parish throughout this mandate, of the PS executive, which culminated in the disagreement within of the executive and with the consequent resignations of the President and Secretary of the Samouco Parish Council.

Since the beginning of this mandate, the CDU elected representatives in the Samouco Parish Assembly have denounced several irregularities and demanded that, on the part of this PS executive, clarifications be provided and documents that would allow for monitoring of the Board’s acts as provided for in the statute. of the opposition.

We warned and pointed out that the lack of transparency could be hiding irregularities and illegalities. The CDU did its job, asked questions about various subjects, asked for documents, but the questions remained unanswered, the documents did not appear.

The resignations of the former elected by the PS, Leonel Fina and Clara Vila Cova, as well as the maintenance of the elected Joel Rodrigues, current treasurer and who will assume the presidency of the Samouco Parish Council, are presented in a tense climate with accusations of irregularities by part of the resigning secretary. The CDU demands, once again, transparency and that the population be given the necessary clarifications. The PS Council cannot “fix” the matter with “personal issues”, when suspicions of irregularities have been raised.

We call the PS council to responsibility because we believe that without this situation of rupture and consequent reporting to the authorities, this executive would continue in office without any desire on the part of the PS to reverse the situation.

Throughout these two and a half years in office, attacks on democracy by this PS executive have been frequent, with censorship of comments on the Parish Council’s social networks, with attacks on trade union freedom, with disrespect for the right to strike and workers, exemptions from cemetery fees that in reality represent a greater burden for customers, emails asking to fine customers, among many others. A

We note that the decisions were always taken with the feeling of connivance of the entire executive and the respective PS bench, which discredits any PS executive who may take office at the Samouco Parish Council.

The PS took refuge in the absolute majority it holds to approve what they wanted without reporting to the Parish Assembly or the population. We reaffirm that an executive must not exercise his power against the population but find solutions, in collaboration with the population he serves.

We end with the guarantee that the CDU will continue to do its work for the benefit of the population of Samouco, we will honor the vote of confidence given to us.

For Samouco WORK, HONESTY and COMPETENCE.

The CDU of the Parish of Samouco.
