Short from 2023, the production has been a critical success reflected in the statuette’s victory last Sunday (10), in Los Angeles, in the United States. Previously, he had won the same award in Critic’s Choice Documentary Awardsin 2023.

What is the story of the documentary?

The Last Repair Shop tells the story of a discreet warehouse located in downtown Los Angeles, where there is a small group that embraces a mission: to keep more than 80,000 student instruments in good condition.

The place is actually one of the largest and last instrument repair workshops in the United States.

Since 1959, there has been a tradition of offering free musical instrument repairs to public school students in Los Angeles.

In the short film, four artisans and four students are humanized through the relationship between music and the instruments to be repaired.

Because of this, the theme of musical education serves as the story’s theme, showing how a broken instrument can cause a mix of emotions, such as anxiety and sadness. A life lesson through the power of music.

Available on Disney+

Since the end of January, the Last Repair Shop has been in the Disney+ catalog. North American production, the documentary is 39 minutes long. The direction is Ben Proudfoot It is Kris Bowers.

Porché Brinker, 12 years old, is the star of the short. She received the Oscar statuette alongside the director duo, one of the most memorable moments of the award.

“The Last Repair Shop is about the heroes of our schools who often go unnoticed, unappreciated and unseen. Today you are noticed, thanked and seen”, said Bowers, at the Oscars.
