Hereditary had side effects on Alex Wolff, who plays one of the characters in the film with which Ari Aster debuted.

Alex Wolff starred in one of the most disturbing moments in horror cinema in recent years.

The actor played Peter Graham in Hereditary, Ari Aster’s debut feature film. The film follows a family dealing with the death of their daughter while a series of strange events related to a satanic cult occur.

In the film starring Toni Colette, the action begins in the car, with Peter and his younger sister, who is having an allergic reaction. When she puts her face out of the window to breathe better, she hits a post and is decapitated.

This is one of the most memorable scenes when we think about Hereditary and, of course, an experience like this left its mark on Wolff. “I’ll tell you that the film hurt me as much as a film can do,” the actor told the website Looper, in 2021.

Alex Wolff revealed he “suffered every possible psychological effect”, including insomnia. “It affected me a lot. It’s very difficult because as an actor you don’t want to seem pretentious,” he added.

We have a comfortable job in many ways, but this, emotionally, was one of the difficult ones. It was one of the ones that really made some changes to my emotional well-being.

After the experience of Hereditary, Wolff did not leave horror aside and has already participated in other projects related to the genre, such as Tempo, by M. Night Shyamalan. Soon, we will see him in A Quiet Place: Day One, the spin-off prequel to the saga directed by John Krasinski. The film opens in theaters on June 27.

About that, Hereditary is available on Netflix. The film became one of the best in the horror genre. The specialized press classified it as “moving” and “extraordinarily disturbing”. Plus, your experience “lasts well beyond the end credits.”
