One of the founders of the cyberpunk subgenre will get his own TV series.

Good news for science fiction fans! Apple TV+ embarked on the ambitious project of transforming Neuromancer, William Gibson’s acclaimed book, into a television series. The writing was responsible for influencing major audiovisual titles, serving as the basis for The Matrix, Ghost in the Shell and more.

In the plot, we follow the story of a high-ranking hacker named Case, who is plunged into a web of digital espionage and high-risk crimes with his partner Molly – an assassin with mirrored eyes who intends to steal from a corporate dynasty. There have been attempts to turn the story into a film/series for years, but only now does it seem like the plan will come to fruition.

A work of science fiction that is already 100% cult: This is one of the best films of the genre in the last 10 years

Graham Roland, writer and producer of series such as Jack Ryan and Fringe; and JD Dillard, director of The Twilight Zone (2019); will be in charge of the adaptation. The fiction will consist of 10 episodes, initially, distributed over just one season.

“We are extremely excited to bring this iconic property to Apple TV+”the showrunners said during a statement. “Since we became friends almost ten years ago, we have been looking for something to bring us together, so this collaboration marks a dream come true. Neuromancer inspired much of the science fiction that came after it and we look forward to bringing television audiences into Gibson’s definitive cyberpunk world.”they completed.

For those who don’t know, William Gibson became a landmark for the science fiction genre with Neuromancer in 1984, winning the Nebula Award for Best Novel. In the following years, he wrote two more sequels, titled Count Zero (1986) and Mona Lisa Overdrive (1988). The basis for the saga is based on themes such as artificial intelligence and the human-machine connection.
