The criticism did not stop this director from making his own version for over 18s of this science fiction film released in 2023.

By announcing his own version of Star Wars on the Netflix platform in 2023, director Zack Snyder started a wave of buzz among his fans and science fiction lovers. Despite the noise, the result that reached the streaming giant’s catalog was a bucket of cold water.

The production, which was one of the platform’s great promises, was a catastrophe and a huge target for critics, who did not hold back in their negative reviews. But while the result was disastrous, it didn’t stop the 300 director from announcing an extended version of the Rebel Moon films – Part 1 and 2.

The announcement of a new version occurred during Snyder’s participation on the channel The Film Junkeeand soon after was confirmed by co-writer Kurt Johnstad in one of his interviews with The Hollywood Reporter. There is still no release date, the extended version will have its rating analyzed for those over 18 years old, in addition to exploring secondary characters who did not have as much screen time.

You’ll definitely see a lot more of Jimmy and his arc, and you’ll see a lot more of Kora and the Mother World. You’ll get a different introduction to Noble and some minor characters like Aris [Sky Yang]who is the soldier from Mother World who defends Sam’s character in the barn

The new version of Rebel Moon may bring uncertainty about its outcome, but it is also the possibility that Snyder will reevaluate his decision to divide the story, which he himself said impacted the ending of his first film.

The story follows a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruler named Balisarius (Fra Fee). The mysterious Kora (Sofia Boutella) becomes the only hope for survival, who brings together a small band of insurgents, displaced people, peasants and war orphans from various worlds who have two goals in common: redemption and revenge.

For fans, the director’s choice to release his own extended version is nothing new, given that in 2021 he released Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a new version of the failed 2017 film, Justice League.

Johnstad also stated that the new version will bring more information about Mundo Mãe, as well as the introduction of new stories and characters. “Certainly knowing Zack, there’s more action and spectacle and visual vibrancy. There’s definitely a lot more mythology, a deeper understanding of the Mother World and its intentions, and what the rebellion is up against.” THR.

Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scar Marker premieres on April 19th directly on Netflix.
