Check out:

Terror conquered 76% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The general consensus highlights the solid performance of Schaferhighlighting that the insane tone of the production can serve as a double-edged sword: love it or hate it.

We have separated excerpts from the main criticisms:

“When watched under the right conditions – late at night, with a good mindset and surrounded by friends – ‘Cuckoo’ will provide a very entertaining journey.” (The Wrap)

“This film is destined to become a cult classic; It’s gloriously insane.” (Time Out)

Don’t forget to watch:

“It’s a horror film without scares, which fails as a production of the genre, but will make for an interesting discussion after the final credits.” (Times UK)

“The film’s absurd concept could have been better received with a little more irreverence in the script and audacity in its images.” (Slant Magazine)

“Despite some silly moments, the film works as a horror production – mainly because of the sick implications surrounding gender and biology. It’s an incredibly strange and mischievously funny film.” (Mashable)

“Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens deliver 100% solid performances. While Schafer is responsible for injecting a necessary sense of reality into the story, Stevens stands out playing an exaggerated villain.” (Awards Daily)

“As a final girl, Hunter Schafer is sensational. She gives life to a character with a strong personality that makes us root for her at all times. Her character may be confused or scared, but she is never defenseless.” (InSession Film)

The horror is scheduled to premiere on May 3rd.

“Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her home in the United States to live with her father, who has just moved to a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. König, their father’s boss, who has an inexplicable interest in Gretchen’s mute half-sister, Alma.

Something doesn’t feel right in this peaceful vacation paradise. Gretchen is tormented by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.”

The cast also has Dan Stevens (‘The guest’), Jessica Henwick (‘Deep Threat’), Marton Csókás (‘Dark Crimes’), Greta Fernández (’30 Coins’) and Jan Bluthardt (‘Light’).

In addition to writing the script, Tilman Singer (‘Light’) is also responsible for direction.

The filmmaker repeats his partnership with cinema Paul Faltzthe composer Simon Waskow and the production designer Dario Mendez Acostawith whom he had already worked on the acclaimed ‘Light‘.
