The company goes through an electoral process to maintain the internal council.

Holding Hollywood’s biggest profits in decades, Marvel and Disney’s recent tribulations are nothing new. Although they continue their empire in different areas of entertainment, the brands are undergoing an internal reformulation at this time that should influence the future of many franchises.

Amid this period of restructuring, investor Nelson Peltz has been trying to win two seats on the board of the parent company, Disney, and criticized the company’s supposed strategy specifically citing Black Panther and The Marvels.

“It fits perfectly”: Wakanda series will be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will have a director from Black Panther

The 81-year-old executive, who previously confessed to having no experience working in the area, believes there is a problem with having productions starring a cast made up of women or people of color. “Why do I have to have a [filme] of Marvel with only women?”, he asked rhetorically in an interview with the Financial Times.

“Not that I have anything against women, but why do I have to do this? Why do I need an all-black cast?” he said in reference to productions that are not actually made up of all-female or all-black casts.

The executive has already had a negative response from Disney, when he was denounced by the company for his “disturbing and destructive” campaign by selling 500,000 Disney shares during his proxy fight. Despite not having a good relationship, Peltz’s speech echoes recent statements by CEO Bob Iger. A few months ago, the president of Disney said that “creators have lost sight” of the goal of “entertaining first” and there is no need for the public to “get a message”, alluding to speeches from prominent minority groups.

Finally, Nelson Peltz made it clear that his problem is not Bob Iger, but the Disney board, which, according to him, needs changes. According to the Varietythe executive makes reference to Kevin Feige, the boss of Marvel with whom he also does not have a good relationship.

“They will always be an allegory about prejudices”: More than 30 years after the original series, director of X-Men ’97 explains the relevance of Marvel’s mutants today (Interview)

Peltz’s joining the Disney board could impact the future of productions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Mickey Mouse House. However, although he has financial activities that can influence the company, his recent positions should not contribute to this issue.
