Daniela Melchior has been opening doors in American cinema since Guardians of the Galaxy, Fast and Furious and Suicide Squad.
It is now that the Portuguese actress surprises us with a remake of “Profissão: Duro” from the 80s, Doug Liman’s “Road House”. This most recent version features not only Melchior, but also Portuguese actor Joaquim de Almeida. The film covers the same story: Dalton is hired to defend a motel with a bar but ends up angering the local crime boss.
The original from the 80s features several celebrities who are still esteemed today: Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliot, Kelly Lynch and is directed by Rowdy Herrington. The film stole the spotlight at the time due to the cast, but also the adrenaline it gave viewers in theaters. The same did not happen to the new version… it premiered on Prime Video and was not shown on the big screen, much to the sadness of director Doug Liman. In the cast, we also have Conor McGregor, the famous Irish MMA fighter and former UFC champion.
Daniela Melchior plays Ellie, an emergency room nurse of Portuguese origin and is a romantic partner with the main character, Dalton, who plays Jake Gyllenhaal. Her performance was commented on by several Portuguese celebrities, including Nuno Markl, comedian and radio presenter, known for her stardom in “Man who bit the dog”, wrote on her social networks: “We salute Daniela Melchior with her poster of “Road House”. I saw it yesterday and had a great time.” Markl also commented on the fact that the film is not available on the big screen, arguing that “Road House has that old school festive side that calls for a room full of applause and shouting”.
Recently, the actress was invited to Kelly Clarkson’s program, which was the actress’s first time on an American talk show. Before promoting “Road House”, Melchior offered pastéis de nata to the presenter and the entire team as a small demonstration of the wonders of Portugal: “I wanted to bring a little of Lisbon with me, everyone loves it!”. The film has carried out several interviews since its premiere in London, and some reviews as you can see here.
In addition to her success in America, the actress continues to surprise the Portuguese and continues to give interviews to the Portuguese media telling everything that happens backstage during American filming and releasing some exclusives about the character she plays: “She is a doctor who works in Florida Keys, where the action takes place. She leaves nothing unsaid, she is an independent woman. At the beginning of the story she is single and happy. She is very attracted to problems in general. (…) She urgently needs therapy and that’s what makes her attracted to Dalton.”
At the end of the interview with Radio Comercial, the actress states that “although the story is similar, everything is different”, referring to the various nationalities that make up the cast, as well as the wide range of ages. Regarding the love scenes that the actress had to play with Jake Gyllenhaal, she stated: “I feel like everything was very light, everything was done very lightly (…) it was very easy.”
The film is available on Amazon Prime and premiered on March 21st. It already has hundreds of views and is currently Prima Video’s most watched film, perhaps we are facing the next Blockbuster, a great commercial phenomenon worthy of a box office success.
