Will Liam Neeson return as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in a future Star Wars film? The actor has an answer to that question!

In 1999, Liam Neeson played Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in George Lucas’ Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It’s a role the Irish actor has taken on several times.

He lent his voice to the character in the animated series The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Legends of the Jedi and appeared briefly in the Disney+ series Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, which also marked the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in their respective roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.

Warning: This paragraph contains spoilers about the ending of The Phantom Menace.

For the record, Qui-Gon Jinn trained Obi-Wan. In The Phantom Menace, the Jedi Master is killed by the Sith Lord Darth Maul. In the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series, Liam Neeson appears as the Force Ghost.

It’s an emotional sequence, as the actor revealed at the series’ press conference that he shed some tears of joy upon reuniting with his partner Ewan McGregor 25 years after The Phantom Menace.

Interviewed by Screen Rant during the promotion of his latest action film In the Land of Saints and Sinners, Liam Neeson spoke about a possible return to George Lucas’ saga.

Liam Neeson back in future Star Wars films?

With several films from the Star Wars universe currently in preparation – Star Wars: New Jedi Order with Daisy Ridley, The Mandalorian & Grogu, projects by James Mangold and Patty Jenkins… – the American website asked the actor if he was ready to reprise his paper.

Liam Neeson said he was delighted to work with Ewan McGregor and George Lucas, but was “too old” to reprise his role in a feature film.

“I really admire Star Wars! I remember seeing Episode IV, the first, in a small crowded cinema in Belfast. You could hear the sirens and cars coming up and down the street, but we were all transported to that little cinema , watching this extraordinary Star Wars story”.

Episode IV? Has anyone seen the first three? No. This is the first. So why was it called IV? Because they are very intelligent, that’s why!

Either way, would I do it again? I really enjoyed working with Ewan and George Lucas on The Phantom Menace. We filmed the film 26 years ago! Would I do it again? I don’t think so. I’m very old, you know. I can’t imagine that”.

Therefore, the chances of Liam Neeson reprising the role of Qui-Gon Jinn in a future Star Wars film are slim.

On the other hand, the 71-year-old actor is not too old for action films, as he has been announced for the cast of Jonathan Hensleigh’s Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky, Neil Jordan’s The Riker’s Ghost, Charlie Johnson in the Flames, by Justin Haythe, and a remake of the cult classic Get Out!
