Gladiator was released in 2000 and is a highly acclaimed film to this day, which makes its sequel carry even greater weight. Among the names in the cast of the new film we have Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan and Joseph Quinn who will play the new emperor, following in the footsteps of Convenient who was played by Joaquin Phoenix. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly he spoke a little about his experience filming the film and the weight of working on a sequence like this.

Quinn said it’s a little scary working on the film because of Gladiator’s legacy:

“We are aware of the legacy of the first film, it makes people misty-eyed. So to get close to that again is a little scary.”

The actor also commented that it was impressed by the scale of production:

“It’s crazy. Working on a film like this changes your perspective on things. The fact that for a film of this scale they built ancient Rome in Malta and to be able to see that is really incredible.”
