According to deadlinethe acclaimed filmmaker Alex Garland (‘Civil War’, ‘Annihilation’) will be responsible for the script for the highly anticipated sequel ‘Extermination 3’ (28 Years Later, in the original).
Jodie Comer (‘Killing Eve’) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’) will be the protagonists. Ralph Fiennes (‘The Menu’) was also confirmed in the cast.
Unfortunately, details about his roles have not been released.
Danny Boyledirector of the original feature, will direct the third film.
The film should serve as the first part of a new trilogy. Nia DaCosta (‘The Legend of Candyman’) is in negotiations to direct the second part, which is expected to be filmed shortly after the first part is completed.
Cillian Murphythe protagonist of the 2002 film, will return as executive producer.
Previously, the actor had expressed enthusiasm about returning to the saga: “I was talking to Danny Boyle recently and I said, ‘Danny, we shot the movie in late 2000.’ So I think we’re definitely getting closer to ’28 Years Later’. But, as I’ve always said, I’m willing. I would love to do that. If Alex [Garland] thinks there’s a script and if Danny wants to do it, he’d love to do it.”
Each film is planned to have a budget in the region of $75 million, although it is unclear how targets or compensation may have evolved during the high-stakes negotiations.
