The story of one of the most iconic radio stations in Brazil opens in cinemas this Thursday (25). The film “Aumenta que é Rock’n’Roll” tells the story of Fluminense FM, a station that operated on 94.9 FM in Rio de Janeiro and was responsible for the launch of several national rock bands, including Paralamas do Sucessos, Legião Urban, Blitz, among others. The feature film is based on the book “A Onda Maldita”, published by Luiz Antonio Mello in 1992.

With the nickname “A Maldita”, Fluminense FM started broadcasting its programming back to the youth format in March 1982, when journalist Luiz Antonio Mello (played in the film by Johnny Massaro), was invited to take over the direction of the radio at the same time. alongside his friend Samuca (George Sauma). The film, directed by Tomás Portella, is based on the book “A Onda Maldita”, published by Luiz Antonio Mello in 1992,

One of the characters whose story is told in the film is the announcer Monika Venerabile. The radio presenter is played by actress Marina Provenzzano, who plays Alice in the film. “The production of the film was based on my story to be inspired by Marina, who plays Alice. The film is a very dynamic, very fun blockbuster, which perfectly portrays our 80s era,” Monika told the portal tudoradio.com.

The film features the last film appearance of actress Flora Diegues (1984-2019), daughter of the film’s producer, Renata Almeida Magalhães, and filmmaker Cacá Diegues. During filming, she was recovering from one of the operations she had undergone to treat brain cancer.

“Flora was my best friend, but she was also very good friends with the entire cast. When she died, the whole group, about 25 people, got the same “Dear NASA” tattoo, which was a letter she had written to NASA, about a project she wanted to do. I think that part of what happens between us there is largely because of her”, said Marina Provenzzano, in an interview with O Globo.
