Director claims TRIPLE kiss in ‘Rivals’ was not in the original script

In an interview with EntertainmentWeeklythe director Luca Guadagnino (‘Call Me By Your Name’) confirmed that one of the most iconic scenes from the acclaimed ‘Rivals‘ was not present in the original script.

The filmmaker revealed that the triple kiss scene was only introduced later in the plot, after Guadagnino highlight the importance of properly exploring the dynamics of the love triangle.

“I believe that [a cena do beijo triplo] It wasn’t in the original script. We discussed a lot with [o roteirista] Justin Kuritzkes on the possibility of all sides of this triangle touching – it was important to show that if you’re jealous of someone, you’re not just jealous of your partner, but you’re also jealous that you weren’t chosen by your rival. You want to be the object of your rival’s affection, so you also feel jealous that your partner has been chosen.”

Previously, Zendaya had confirmed that the script underwent a natural evolution: “The film went through a few drafts [diferentes]. Luca and Justin worked on the script before we all got together. Although the original script was brilliant, Luca also wanted to introduce his own vision to the narrative, so their collaboration began during the initial stages.”

Please note that ‘Rivals‘ should raise around US$15 million in its first weekend in the USA. Acclaimed by critics, with impressive 96% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoesthe film will become the biggest release of the director’s career Luca Guadagnino (‘Call Me By Your Name’) in the country.

The film will be released in national cinemas on April 25th.

The plot follows a couple of tennis athletes who, after reuniting with an old friend, end up unearthing a relationship kept secret for many years.

Married to a champion who has only accumulated defeats in recent games, Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face the failed Patrick on the courts. Patrick was her husband’s best friend, and is Tashi’s ex-boyfriend. When past and present collide, and tensions rise, Tashi must wonder what the cost of this victory will be.

Luca Guadagnino shared details about the film in an interview with Variety. He revealed that Zendaya spent three months training with professional tennis coach and former player Brad Gilbert to prepare for the role.
