The star took a while to believe that he would star in the saga created by JRR Tolkien.

A film that expands the universe of the Lord of the Rings franchise, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a great success of the 2010s. In the plot, we follow the journey of characters such as Bilbo, Gandalf and more, led by the illustrious direction of Peter Jackson.

Despite the excellent work done, many don’t know that Richard Armitage, interpreter of the dwarf Thorin Escudo de Carvalho, couldn’t believe it when he was cast in his role. He recently confessed during an interview with Radio Times that he swore he would be fired, even going as far as not unpacking his bags after traveling to the recording location.

“I remember arriving in New Zealand to film The Hobbit and not unpacking.”, began the actor. “I really thought I was going to be fired and sent home because they made the wrong choice”he completed.

For those who don’t remember, Armitage first played the dwarf king in 2012, in the feature film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (in the original). In the following years, he starred in two more chapters of the saga, namely The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014).

At the time, Peter Jackson described the star’s character as “someone who had doubts and fears”, adding that he also had a “gentle and perhaps very lonely side”.
