The production of Peter Jackson’s classic trilogy had to be creative to prevent the actor from getting hurt during filming.

There was a time when the name Orlando Bloom was not known. Movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Gran Turismo were still a long way off: in 2001, he was just a 24-year-old kid who had barely appeared in any British series. However, he had the audacity to participate in The Lord of the Rings auditions for the role of Faramir, who doesn’t appear until The Two Towers. When Peter Jackson saw him and it was clear to the director that he was the elf Legolas he was looking for.

In 2002, Orlando Bloom was suddenly voted one of the most popular people under 25. And a year earlier, he was absolutely nobody: after all, that’s how Hollywood works. In fact, during the first half of the new millennium, Bloom seemed like he would be everything. And although trace of him has faded somewhat over the years, he remains a welcome and surprising presence on screen.

But the Lord of the Rings made a mistake with him that, surprisingly, rarely comes to light…. And it has to do with his eyes. We all know that Legolas’ eyes are blue, yes, but in some scenes they change to the actor’s natural color (brown). No, it’s not a magical power, but simply a way for the team to help Orlando Bloom from damaging his eyes, which would happen if he wore contact lenses all the time.

We don’t see much of Bloom these days because he’s focused on his family (he’s still married to pop singer Katy Perry, with whom he has a daughter) and it doesn’t look like he’ll be returning to the spotlight… Unless, of course, a certain pirate is eager to get back into action.
