Enid Blyton’s classic literary work will be released on the big screen and will feature a Wonka scriptwriter.

This Friday (03) it was announced that another adaptation for the big screen is in the works. Enid Blyton’s classic children’s story, The Magic Faraway Tree, released in 1943, will be adapted by Simon Farnaby, screenwriter of works such as Wonka and Paddington 2.

Directed by Ben Gregor, actor Andrew Garfield and The Crown star Claire Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the Emmy-winning series, were confirmed in the main cast. In fact, this is not the first time that the actors form a couple on screen, they acted together in A Reason to Live, a feature film by Andy Serkis.

The director of the adaptation said he was excited about the project and felt spoiled to have them in this film. “Having two actors with the quality of Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy is a screenwriter’s dream. Plus, they have the power to imbue complexities into their characters that I don’t have the power to write… I mean, even Enid Blyton might be impressed that we have Spider-Man and the Queen.” Filming on the adaptation is expected to begin in June with the rest of the additional cast that has not yet been revealed.

What is the story of The Magic Faraway Tree

Enid Blyton’s children’s story follows Polly (Foy) and Tim (Garfield) and their children Beth, Joe and Fran – a modern family who find themselves forced to move to the remote English countryside. Soon after the family arrives at their new house, the children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary residents, including the characters Moonface, Silky, Dame Washalot and Saucepan Man.

Martin Scorsese doesn’t stop: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Garfield are in the pipeline for films about Jesus and Frank Sinatra

At the top of the tree, they are transported to fantastical lands, and through the joys and challenges of their adventures, the family learns to reconnect and appreciate each other for the first time in years. The film does not yet have an official release date.
