Pub considered “cradle of metal” where Black Sabbath emerged is listed in England

The Crown pub, built in 1881, considered the “cradle of heavy metal” because it was the place where Black Sabbath played their first show, gained the title of “listed building” – a type of listed building there in England.

The Birmingham venue has hosted shows by other bands such as The Who, Status Quo, UB40, Duran Duran, Thin Lizzy, Marc Bolan, Supertramp and Judas Priest. Since 2014, the space has been empty.

According to a report from O Globo, this listing provides greater protection against changes to the site. “Listed status will give the site greater protection against change, as will its neighbour, the historic Old Rep theatre, founded in 1913. The street is also home to the UK’s oldest operating cinema, the Electric, which has closed its doors last week”, says the text.
